As energy costs continue to rise, homeowners are looking for ways to save money while improving efficiency. One of the best ways to do this is by installing a smart thermostat. If you’re a Met-Ed customer in Pennsylvania, you could be eligible for a rebate on an ENERGY STAR® certified smart thermostat, helping you lower your upfront costs and reduce your energy bills.
Why Choose a Smart Thermostat?
Smart thermostats are designed to automatically adjust the temperature of your home based on your habits and preferences. According to ENERGY STAR, a certified smart thermostat can save an average of 8% on heating and cooling costs. Over time, this can lead to significant savings on your energy bills while also increasing the comfort of your home.
How Much is the Rebate?
Met-Ed is offering a rebate for customers who purchase and install an ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostat. The standard rebate is $50, but income-eligible customers may qualify for an additional $25 rebate, bringing the total savings to $75.
Who Qualifies for the Rebate?
To qualify for the rebate, the thermostat must be ENERGY STAR certified and purchased between June 1, 2021, and May 31, 2026. The rebate is available to residential customers of FirstEnergy’s Pennsylvania electric companies, which includes Met-Ed.
How to Apply for Your Rebate
Met-Ed offers three ways to receive your rebate:
1. Smart Thermostat Installed with a New HVAC System
If you purchase a smart thermostat along with a new HVAC system installation, you can apply online for the rebate.
2. Smart Thermostat Purchased Separately
If you purchased a new smart thermostat but did not install a new HVAC system, you can still apply for the rebate.
3. Instant Discount at Participating Retailers
Some participating Lowe’s and Home Depot locations offer the rebate instantly at checkout, eliminating the need for a rebate form.
Additional $25 Rebate for Income-Eligible Customers
Met-Ed customers who qualify for income-eligible programs can receive an extra $25 rebate on top of the standard rebate.
If you received an instant discount at Lowe’s or The Home Depot, you’ll need to submit an additional application:
